iPhone 8 Plus Astrophotography: Nearly Full Moon
Posted: 3 November 2017
Thursday evening, 2 November 2017, I attended a meeting of the Oracle Dark Skies Committee. When I returned home I went to the observatory for a short session.
Open: Thursday, 2 November 2017, 2035 MST
2040 MST: LX600 ON, StarLock OFF, High Precision OFF.
Viewed the Moon, 102X and 49X. Bright. Slight terminator visible about 24 hours before precisely Full.
Mounted the iPhone 8 Plus on the 2" 50mm eyepiece using the Levenhuk Smartphone Adapter. Used the Lightning cord Earbuds as a remote shutter release.
Took the following photo of the nearly Full Moon, afocal 49X, using the iOS app NightCap Camera (ISO 20, 1/4400sec):
Next, viewed M45 (the Pleiades), 49X and 102X. Pretty view even with the bright moonlit sky.
2103 MST: LX600 OFF.
Close: Thursday, 2 November 2017, 2110 MST
Session Length: 0h 35m|
