Subject: A question about a meade telescope Date: 2/21/04, 14:08 From: Stan Drery (johngen_j@yahoo.com) Hello.I live in greece.I am interested to buy a meade Etx-90ra telescope.(used - for better price ).If you like give me some info about it. Thanks for your time.Mike here: See my comments about the ETX (original model, now known as the ETX-90RA) on the Buyer/New User Tips page. Also, you might want to look at the User Observations page.
Subject: Fork Mount Compatability Date: 2/20/04, 00:24 From: Andy Jackson (4jacksons@sbcglobal.net) I've had an ETX90-RA for six monts now. I am VERY happy with it optically but I am starting to get GOTO fever especially since I got an LPI. So, several questions for you... Is the OTA the same for RA and EC models? If so, it would seem to be just a matter of replacing the fork mount / drive base assembly (FMDBA?). Could I use a FMDBA from an ETX 60 or 70 EC model? Finally, where could I look to find one? Thank You, A. JacksonMike here: Yes, the OTA is the same. See the Telescope Tech Tips page for some ideas on attaching to other mounts. As to where, eBay or perhaps even Telescope Warehouse (see the Astronomy Links page).
Subject: Tripod compatibility Date: 2/13/04, 13:26 From: SCALLYSTEV@aol.com I have an ETX 70 and am thinking of moving up the range. Can you use the tripod from the ETX 70 on, for example, an ETX90? I suspect the mounting holes will be different in some way. In my short ownership of the EXT 70 I have found your site to be required reading. Great work. Thanks Steve ScallyMike here: Yes, you COULD use the ETX-70 tripod with the ETX-90 BUT you probably don't WANT to. It is too lightweight for the ETX-90; you would get way to much vibration in the views when focusing or even when just viewing. You need a sturdier tripod for the ETX-90.
And:
Thank you Mike for your knowlegable and very fast response. Steve.
