Subject: up date DS scopes to the 497 control Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 12:12:43 From: JARBO55432@aol.com (JARBO55432@aol.com) I head a lot of problems with my DS 90 495 controler. I got a used 497 for $100 on line. Problem salved! Got the 5005 cable with it to connect to a computer and mead up date. You can compensate for gear play with it so you will hit any object you want. Best thing I ever did to this scope. A note on lenses for these scopes. If you ware glasses and can afford a $120 lens try a Orion Stratus 68 degree lens 1 1/4". You will see the whole frame edge to edge. If you can find them on line used made in Japan are the best. The new ones are made in China and are not as good but they are a good lens.Better than my Meade super plossis Richard Arbogast mpls. mn. email@example.com

Subject: problems viewing saturn Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2006 13:37:24 From: Bevo Tartan (firstname.lastname@example.org) I just got a meade DS 2130. While images of the moon seem crisp even with the 4mm eye piece, I cant see the rings of Saturn. Saturn appears as a big round spot -- similar although smaller than Jupiter (I cant see the bands of Jupiter although I can clearly see all the four largest moons of Jupiter). On Saturn, I can get the 12.5mm eye piece to focus clearly (about 80X magnification) -- but it doesnt even appear elongated. Do you know what might be causing the problem? Thanks!Mike here: It sounds like you are not achieving a proper focus but are instead trying to increase the size of the image by focusing. Focus on a star (make a pinpoint of light) and then look at Saturn. You should see the Rings, although they will appear small to either side of Saturn's disk.
