Subject: Meade EPX 90 Advice please Sent: Tuesday, September 20, 2005 14:59:10 From: Kevin Motherway (motherwaykevin@hotmail.com) I'm looking to get into astronomy, but I'd also like to get some nature watching done. There's a goo offer on e-bay UK (I'm in Ireland) for a EPX 90, with not PE or AST after the spec, just "EPX90" http://www.meade.com/catalog/etx/etx_spotting.html Can you recomend this as a good first scope for astronomy and for general use or am I missing something. Thanks for your time KevinMike here: First off, if the eBay item is advertised as an "EPX" I'd avoid it; the seller either doesn't know what they have or they are possibly misrepresenting it. Or they just made a typo; but you should confirm that. As to just getting the spotting scope version, that will be fine for terrestrial use. But for astronomical use you will need to get a mount intended for astronomical use, including possibly "clock drives" to track the sky motion.
Subject: details of the dismantleing of etx90 Sent: Tuesday, September 6, 2005 17:49:51 From: Peter Spiessberger (pspiessberger@udtrucks.com.au) I was wondering if you could help me I am after some photos of the inside of the etx90ec mainly the RA section I read an article In your tech tips about a trust bearing mod which has taken the RA play out and sounded very successful and was wondering if this could be performed on The etx90 I have access to theses bearings in all sorts sizes . But before I take a look I just want to know what is the best way to disassemble the RA section and I thought maybe you would know of a site or have some images of this thanks for listening Mike and what a great website you have would be lost without it Cheers PeterMike here: There are several articles on the Helpful Information: Telescope Tech Tips page, some with photos. I don't recall which ones specifically have the photos.
