Subject: Re: ETX90 on DS2000 mount? Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 03:21:44 From: Possma Net (firstname.lastname@example.org) This is funny - maybe You also want to write a note for this on Your site / in the DSX section (and maybe You want to rename it to "DSX/DS-2xxxMAK Models" or similar...): Yesterday i surfed on Meade's site and found out, that there will be a MAK on DS mount again, including the #494 AutoStar and a red dot finder! It will be released about June 1st this Year in the US, it will cost about $400 (related to some astroshops in the web) and it is called "Meade DS-2090MAK" and "Meade DS-2102MAK". Subject: brass gears for DS motors Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2007 19:28:46 From: Herald HIVET (email@example.com) Seems that the link you provide on your website is broken I'm looking for a precision all metal gears kit for my DSserie mount, any idea ? Thanks again for your very usefull site. Best regards. Herald HIVETMike here: Sorry no. Perhaps someone else does know of an alternative. I've removed the link; thanks for the report.
Subject: DS-2080 focuser Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2007 17:52:29 From: John McMahon (firstname.lastname@example.org) I have a Meade DS2080-AT with a rather loose focuser. When I try to focus the telescope, the image moves up and down, depending on wether I'm moving the focuser in or out. I was wondering if you might have any suggestions on how to fix this issue, and if not, could you suggest a more robust focuser that I could replace this plastic on with? Thanks JohnMike here: Some image shift may be normal; since I don't have a DS refractor model I don't know. However, if not normal it could be due to an optical alignment problem with the diagonal.
Subject: Just buying the telescope tube Sent: Thursday, March 1, 2007 19:05:47 From: Mitch Averhoff (email@example.com) All this time I was looking for a whole new telescope with a larger apeture but I didn't think I can just buy a new tube. So my question is can I just buy a bigger tube and new brackets to fit it and just keep the mount that I have? I have a DS series with an alt/az mount Meade but with only a 4.5" tube. I want to get an 8 inch but obviously I will need larger brackets to hold it to the mount. I found on Orion's catalog that they sell the tube alone so I was wondering if I can fit it onto my mount and drive. I'm not sure Meade sells tubes by themselves so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MitchMike here: Well, yes and no. Yes, you can buy a larger telescope and build something yourself to attach it to your existing mount. But whether that is a good idea will depend on the amount of modifications you plan to make. Keep in mind that mounts like the DS are typically low-end and more appropriate to the smaller sized DS telescopes. Attaching a larger telescope can result in increased mount instability and image vibrations. So, no, it may not work out as you expected.
OK. I appreciate the info. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and buy a whole new scope. Thanks, Mitch
