Problem fixed! The main central mounting nut inside the base was a tad
too loose. I tightened it just enough to resolve the rocking problem
but not so tight as to inhibit movement in RA.

Thanks for your swift and insightful response.

Subject:	ETX 90RA Drive Base problem

I've owned my ETX 90RA since 1996. Over the course of years of use and
unintentional abuse, it has developed a problem which I am hoping you
can help me with. Instead of there being a tight or flush seating where
the RA Setting Circle meets the Drive Base, there is now some play
between these surfaces. Specifically, if I were to hold the fork mount
in my hands and pushed forward and backward, there is about 1/16th inch
of play or rocking, when there should be none. Do you have any
suggestions on how I might be able to remedy this mechanical problem?
Tony DiClemente
Mike here: Two possibilitles: the main central mounting nut inside the base is loose or the teflon pads have shifted or come loose (see the article "Teflon Pad check" on the Helpful Information: Telescope Tech Tips page).
