Subject: Flip up mirror replacement - Meade ETX Model M Sent: Monday, November 19, 2007 11:39:38 From: firstname.lastname@example.org (email@example.com) Received an ETX model M that was my brother-in-laws'. He passed in January and as I was getting it set up to calibrate it this weekend, I noticed it was missing the flip up mirror. The assembluy is there but the mirror itself is gone......no where inside. Any ideas on how to get a replacement? Thanks! Ray GarciaMike here: You could try Meade but they likely won't be able to help. You could try Telescope Warehouse or ScopeStuff (links on the Astronomy Links page). Alternatively you could attach an ETX "Visual Back" (see the Accessory Reviews: Showcase Products page) to the rear port and use eyepieces there.
I plan to try some photography too so you were happy with the visual back and the extender?Mike here: Yes. In fact, the Visual Back remains attached to my ETX-90RA (except that it is packed up for my pending move). If you plan to hang a camera off the rear port keep in mind that balance may become an issue and you might need to make a counterweight. See the Helpful Information: Astrophotography for lots of information.
