    Dick Seymour's Patches rseymour@wolfenet.com (c) 23-oct-2001

Patch Kit for 22eT
Provides:
 (1) Az and Alt Training display/editing (in Setup>Train> scroll sequence)
If you scroll down from Alt Train,
you will reach EDIT/Az Train and EDIT/Alt Train
Pressing ENTER to select those items will show you the stored value generated
by your last Training session. You may make notes, and/or change them.
Press ENTER for the changes to be written to memory.
You will need to cycle power for the changes to take effect.

 (2) Limit maximum Elevation during GoTo (under Utilities>Max Elev)
To avoid damage to rear-port-mounted equipment, this feature sets an upper
limit to the elevation (Dec) the telescope will go during a GoTo.
If the target requires entering the "danger zone", the Autostar will Warn you,
giving you the choice of pressin g [goto] agian to proceed, or Mode to cancel
the motion. The value you enter is in arcminutes. This table gives angles:
         90 deg = 5400 min 60 deg = 3600 min
         80 deg = 4800 min 50 deg = 3000 min
         70 deg = 4200 min 40 deg = 2400 min
It will be remebered across power-ups. You do NOT need to power-cycle.

 (3) Lower elevation limit for Satellite AOS point (Under Object>Satellite)
This adds a menu item between Satellite/Delete and Satellite/Edit
      It shows as Satellite/AOS Elev:
If you press enter to select it, you are shown the lowest angle the Autostar
will use for predicting a satellite pass's start. The value is in degrees.
It will be remembered across power-ups. You do NOT need to power-cycle.

 (4) Satellite AOS (rise) time displayed to the second
 (5) Optional: satellite tracking automatically starts when counter hits zero (no beep)
 (6) Optional: Cord Wrap on/off available for all models
 (7) Version number will change to 22tt. Initialization will show "22t"
 (8) To provide Menu slots, Removes OwnerInfo/Street/City/Zip/State.
OwnerInfo/Address is now an input operation

If you wish to *not* have Automatic Sat tracking, you must edit the patch22et.txt file.
Automatic Sat Track is implemented by default. Add semicolons where prompted.

If you DO wish to have the Cord Wrap control, you must edit the patch22et.txt file.
Extended Cord Wrapcontrol (dangerous for ETX models) is *NOT* implemented by default.
Remove the semicolons where the file's comments dictate.

To use the NEW UPDATER version of Dick Seymour's patches:

Unpack the zip file into
c:\Program Files\Meade\ASU\Ephemerides

It will create 4 files:
newpatch.bat <-- the batch file which controls the job
AStarPat.exe <-- the executable program which does the job
  patch22eT.txt <-- the patch-list file, with comments
  22eTreadme.txt <-- this text file

BEFORE CONTINUING: Make a COPY of the Meade-original Build.rom file to another folder
for safety's sake. This Patch kit will -also- make a backup copy, but you can't
   be too sure.
If there is already a "build.rom_bak" in there, please remove it to another location.

Once you have done that, you can accomplish the patch in either of two ways:
 (1) by drag-and-dropping the patch22eT.txt icon on top of the newpatch.bat icon.
This method requires that your ROM file is named "build.rom"
or
 (2) Open a DOS (command) window. Move its context to the directory holding
the build.rom file (which can have any name) and the files of this kit.
In that DOS window, type the command:

             AStarPat.exe build.rom patch22et.txt

Substitute your ROM file's name for "build.rom", and the patch file's name afterwards.

That's it. If no error messages appear, you may now use the ASU Updater to
update the Autostar with the new build.rom file this will create.
When it asks, tell it you want to use the Local Disk copy.
Your original build.rom is renamed to build.rom_bak

=====
Messages: If you are using "method (1)" above, then this is what you should see:
A black DOS window will appear.
The patch will happen, with progress messages.
If there are problems, some error messages will appear giving hints as to their cause.
  If it says: "already patched?",
that indicates that the "old" data-check did not find the values it was expecting.
You may not have v22eT's build.rom file in that folder.
If it says: "bad command", it means that the AStarPat.exe file is not in the
same (ASU/Ephemerides) folder as the Build.rom file.

When the patch is finished, you may close the DOS window by clicking
the [x] on the upper right corner.

The program will RENAME your existing BUILD.ROM file to BUILD.ROM_BAK (date unchanged)
It will create a new (dated today) build.rom file.
If you were to patch -that- file, with the build.rom_bak still there,
the *new* (2nd) patched file would be named build.rom_NEW
and the "original" (1st patched) file would remain as build.rom
Build.rom_bak would remain as the original, untouched file.
If you wish to return to a pure-Meade condition, copy that build.rom_bak to build.rom.

enjoy, feel free to request other features.
