"GO TO"....ORION - - Coming for Your Holiday Season!
The Mighty Hunter ORION is COMING!!

From: sherrodc@ipa.net (Clay Sherrod)

Many people who follow the Constellation "GO TO" TOUR Guides are keenly aware that it is time (I have been creeping along in Right Ascension, constellation-by-constellation if you haven't discovered that by now!) for our look at perhaps the most beautiful and famous of all the constellations (the "Big Dipper" doesn't count).

The wonderful, wintry constellation of Orion the Hunter is featured in our next "GO TO" Constellation Tours! Because the constellation is so rich in mythology, history, mystery and abounds in some of the most exciting and wonderful objects in all the heavens, I have divided this segment of your TOURS into three (3) installments:

PART I - ORION: "Making a Mark in the Sky - Legends for Mankind"
PART II - ORION: "Observing and Understanding Messier 42 - the Orion Nebula"
PART III - "Revealing the Treasures Within"

This has allowed me to really concentrate on the attention that all three aspects of Orion that it deserves.

PART ONE focuses on the history and lore of the mighty Hunter and dispels some of the myth (and hero-worship!) that many of you likely hold for the grandest of all the celestial statesmen. Indeed, if you cherish this constellation for the legend of the near-perfect and mighty hunter....you might want to skip this part!

PART TWO explores in its entirety the fantastic galactic diffuse nebula: Messier 42, the "Great Orion Nebula," complete with wonderful images and facts about the grandest of all the birthing grounds of stars.

PART THREE will be your regular "GO TO" TOUR for Orion, featuring all other objects that we usually ignore in lieu of the ever-fascinating staring wonder at M-42.

The guide is prepared and waiting.....it is YOUR Christmas present from me, and from Mike Weasner's ETX site and the Arkansas Sky Observatory. It was two months of hard work in the making and sure to please most everyone who reads the factual, the fantasy, the fictional and fickle story of this great Greek hero.

You will be able to read and download this Orion Constellation Guide beginning the week after Thanksgiving! The first installment will appear on the Mighty ETX site after the "big bird feast" and the second and third each week thereafter until Christmas!

Happy Holidays from the Arkansas Sky Observatory and the Mighty ETX site!
