Moon Photo/Drawing Contest

Contest entries and the winner are now posted. Click here to see them.

In conjunction with Oceanside Photo and Telescope, I am announcing a Contest to be held in honor of OPT's "Meade Day" and my book signing at OPT on Saturday, 16 November 2002. This is the first of what we hope will be many contests, with different types of prizes.

Contest Description:

Take your best photograph or make your best drawing of the Moon or any lunar feature during the contest window. You may use any ETX or DS telescope model and any eyepiece, with or without any optical accessories (e.g., Barlow Lens, focal reducer, filter). The contest window is 1200 Universal Time on 15 November 2002 through 1200 Universal Time on 17 November 2002. The photograph or drawing must be done during this time period.

Contest Prize:

For this first contest the prize will be a Meade "AstroFinder Limited Edition Astronomy Software" package, which includes a CD-ROM (Windows 95/98/NT) and a #505 cable for use with a #497 Autostar. Value = $49.99 (USD). A description of the package is available on the OPT Site.

Contest Rules:

Please submit entries to me at (mweasner@aol.com). Use a Subject of "Contest". Submissions must be in JPEG format. Use the best resolution/size and quality that shows your drawing or photo the best. Submissions must be received by 2100 Pacific Standard Time on 21 November 2002 (0500 UT, 22 November). Submissions received during the contest window will be accepted. Submissions not sent as a JPEG file will not be accepted. (A submission sent as a Zip or StuffIt file is OK.) Early or late entries will not be accepted. Photos or drawings of the Moon that were done outside of the contest window will not be accepted.

One entry per person. A valid email address must be used for the entry. Please include your name, the date and time (Universal Time) that the photograph or drawing was made, the full telescope model (e.g., "ETX-70AT" not just "ETX"), eyepiece, and any accessories used, and if a photograph, the full camera model (e.g., "Nikon Coolpix 995" not just "Coolpix"), mounting method, exposure setting (aperture and shutter speed), and film type (Black-and-White or color, and ISO rating) or if a digital camera, the ISO rating. Drawings must be scanned.

Decisions of the judges (Mike Fowler of OPT and Mike Weasner) will be final. All entries will be posted on Weasner's Mighty ETX Site upon confirmation of the winner. The winning selection will be highlighted. The submitter retains the copyright on the submitted image or drawing. The winner will be notified by email. The winner will need to supply a shipping address for the prize. If no response to the shipping address request is received within 7 days or if the email address is rejected for any reason, an alternative winning entry will be selected.
