Based upon reader requests, I have decided to implement a Site Update Notification Service. This service is totally under my control and is completely email based. Subscribers will be sent an email whenever I update the site.
Send an email to mweasner@optcorp.com with the word "subscribe" in the subject line.
Send an email to mweasner@optcorp.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
NOTES:
I've received subscription requests from addresses that immediately return a HOST NOT FOUND or USER NOT FOUND error when the subscription acknowledgement message is sent to the Reply-To address from the original subscription request email. As a consequence of this happening, I have decided that any error received when sending this acknowledgement will result in that address being removed from the Site Update Notification list. If you have not received an acknowledgement message within 24 hours, please resend it using a proper Reply-To email address.
Once you are successfully subscribed, notifications will be sent when the Site is updated. If a notification email is rejected for any reason, your email address will be removed from Site Update Notification list.
Some of these errors may be due to a badly formatted Reply-To email address in your email software, whether intentional or inadvertent. My apologies for this hard line but it is being implemented due to apparent abuse of this system by some jerks.
Email addresses submitted via this subscription method will not be sold or otherwise distributed. Only your visible email address as used on the site content will be available to others.
