2010 Ends with Snow!
25 December, after being windy but clear all day, clouds began approaching from the west as sunset approached. And the winds only calmed down a little bit. I had hoped to track a nice ISS pass in the telescope and do some more DSO imaging but the clouds prevented that. The nights continued to be cloudy through the end of the year.
29-30 December. Winter storm. Rain began the afternoon of 29 December (got nearly 0.5" by midnight). Rain continued into the morning of 30 December, with wind gusts to 51 MPH. Snow had been forecast, but the temperature stayed too high overnight, although there was some sleet. There was a brief power outage at 0620 MST. Rain total from midnight got to 0.19". The temperature dropped 10 degrees to 30°F in about 5 minutes at 0630 MST. Wow! Then it began to snow. It was 27°F at 1219 MST, snowing, wind blowing >20 MPH. Snow ended mid-afternoon. You can see snow photos and videos on my Oracle Webcam Time-Lapse Movies page. The temperature overnight 30-31 December got down to 23°F.
31 December. Went out to the observatory in the morning to check on things. All was well. Just cold (29°F) and snowy. I took the photo at the top of this page.
Hopefully, the sky will be clear once 2011 arrives.
