Mercury and Crescent Moon conjunction, Nova V462 Lup

Posted: 26 June 2025

Thursday night, 26 June 2025, there was a conjunction of the planet Mercury and a thin crescent Moon. Separation was about 3°42'. I observed the conjunction using 7x50 binoculars. I took the following photos using a Nikon D850 DSLR.

f/4.8, 1/4sec, ISO 1600, FL 125mm

f/5.6, 1 second, ISO 1600, FL 300mm

I then observed Nova V462 Lup, about Mag. +5.5, using 7x50 binoculars. The nova was very obvious in the binoculars. I took this photograph using the D850 DSLR (f/5.6, 2 seconds, ISO 6400, FL 250mm). The streak is an Earth-orbiting satellite.
