After years of struggling to tighten down the lens retaining ring on some of my eyepieces, I finally decided to get a spanner wrench. I had seen some reports of the NEEWER tools and checked their web site. I decided to get the HW-06 10-100mm Lens Removal Tool Kit as that would fit the widest ranges and types of retainer ring holes/slots of my eyepieces, filters, and camera lenses.

The Kit comes in a small box. Inside the box is a multi-language User Manual, an English Instruction Manual, the parts (all metal, assembly required), two hex wrenches, and a lens cleaning cloth.

All the tips have plastic covers on them which you remove for use. The reason I purchased this Kit is for the three tip types so I could use the Tool on my eyepieces, filters, and camera lenses regardless of the holes/slots in the retaining ring. NOTE: Some eyepieces and camera lenses may have the holes/slots covered.

TIP: There are extra screws included which I kept in the parts bag. I used a separate small plastic bag to hold the unused tips.

I tested the Tool on all my eyepieces and filters (not all pictured below), even if rattling them revealed no loose glass, to ensure it would work on them. Two of my eyepieces rattled and needed tightening: the Meade 2" 24mm UWA (my most used eyepiece) and the OPT 1.25" 15mm eyepiece. The Optec Focal Reducer needed a lot of tightening, which explains why I had been noticing focus issues in recent images with the reducer.

With some eyepieces you may have to first remove the silver tube at the bottom. With other eyepieces the holes/slots may be accessible without removing the tube. Some eyepieces may need additional disassembly to expose the retaining ring. Depending on the separation of the holes/slots you will generally only need to loosen one side of the Tool to set the proper Tool tips separation.

Summary

The NEEWER Tool is all metal and is very sturdy. Being all metal it is somewhat heavy, so use caution when using the Tool near the glass in your eyepieces, filters, and lenses. I found it easy to set the tip separation and tighten retaining rings. I am glad I decided to get this Tool Kit.
