Subject: ETX Astro OTA repair Sent: Monday, April 9, 2012 09:36:13 From: Doug Moench (effrider@frii.com) I was just informed by Meade that they no longer offer repair service for my circa 1996 ETX 90mm, which is now referred to as the "Astro" I gather. I am wondering if you or your users know anyone who might repair the OTA which has a slipped secondary mirror. Meade suggested it might have been heat that caused the glue to melt when it was stored. Since it is so old, I thought I might try to get in there myself and move the secondary back to where it belongs. Otherwise, it is just junk, though the drive assembly still works. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. --Doug Moench Fort Collins, COMike here: If you want to attempt it yourself, see the articles "ETX-90RA Secondary Baffle Fix" and "Re-attaching the Baffle" on the Helpful Information: Telescope Tech Tips page. If you don't feel up to it, you can try Dr. Clay Sherrod for his SuperCharge service: http://www.weasner.com/etx/techtips/tuneup_service.html. I don't know if he does the secondary fix or not.
