Subject: re: AUTOSTAR II UPDATE Sent: Saturday, December 8, 2012 17:33:47 From: richard seymour (rseymour@wolfenet.com) As the "readme" in the patch kit says, you have your CHOICE of using ASU or StarPAtch. If you use ASU, you first have to get the original 4.2g ROM file and the patch kit's patchLX42gg17.txt file into the same directory, along with (to make it easier) the "ClickMe" file that's in the kit. Then double-click the ClickMe file. That will create a new file buildLX42gg17.rom Put *that* file into C:/Program Files/Meade/AutostarSuite/Updater/Ephemerides (if you have Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, the above becomes: C:/Program Files(x86)/Meade/AutostarSuite/Updater/Ephemerides ) Now you can run ASU, and tell it to use the Local file. It will present a drop-down list of files it thinks approprate, and "buildLX42gg17" should be among them (if it only offers version numbers, choose 4.2G (uppercase)) StarPatch installs *exactly* the same file as you'd create above. It presents the choices of sub-patches as a tick-list, with the defaults the above process chooses already pre-ticked. No more, no less. StarPatch handles all of the fluff-and-bother of fetching and modifying the patch and the ROM files. I use them both interchangably (for the 497 Autostar, StarPatch is *far* faster) StarPatch is free from http://www.stargps.ca/starpatch.htm good luck --dick
Subject: AUTOSTAR II UPDATE Sent: Wednesday, December 5, 2012 15:36:02 From: Mark (markwmercer@yahoo.com) I have the older version 4.2g for my autostar ll and I see on your site that there is a new 4.2G update. If I choose to use the ASU from Meade will this include Dick seymours patch kit or is this just a different way of patching? I'm fimiliar with Meade and the ASU and would fill more comfortable going this route but I dont want to miss out on anything exciting. Thanks for your help. Thanks Mark LX200gps 8"Mike here: 4.2g is the latest version of the AutoStar II software. To install patches you use StarPatch from www.stargps.ca.
And:
Thank you Mike, I see this is a third party patch. have you done this patch yourself yet and if so was it easy to patch? Mike another question...have you tried the polar aligment software "Alignmaster" with your LX200? link here. http://www.alignmaster.de/en_alignmaster.htmlMike here: I avoid using Windows. So haven't done patches or used that other software.
