Subject: Mars Viewing / ETX-90 Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2003 01:41:04 From: particle-man@comcast.net (Bill Thomas) What eyepiece combos are you using to view Mars in your ETX? Although I imagine you use a more powerful ETX than my 90. Anyway I wanted to report that I tonight saw Mars for the first real time in all its glory, with a 9.7mm Super Plossl WITH Barlow (258X!!) No, it wasn't quite crisp focus, but it still afforded more detail to the eye than without the Barlow, even though the 9.7mm alone was nice and crisp. Saw the southern ice cap, nice surface detail, really amazing. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some people told me 9.7mm + barlow was not worth trying for my scope, BOY were they wrong. I think you have to push it to find the best balance between crispness and size. Do you think it would be worth investing in any other eyepieces to view Mars more clearly through my ETX? Maybe the 6.4? (Only other I have is the 26mm). Well thanks.Mike here: Depending upon where you live, Mars may be very low in the sky. THat means that seeing won't be very good. If you are happy with the views, why change. Keep in mind the maxiumum theoretical magnification for the ETX-90 (180X); yes it can be exceeded (which I do quite regularly) on bright objects. I do have the ETX-90.
Subject: Question about the ETX 90 M Sent: Monday, July 14, 2003 14:05:40 From: milo-stealth@neo.rr.com (ebay) Just purchased one off ebay and would like to know if you can upgrade the motor mount so that it will perform like the EC? Thanks for any feedback.............Left the hobby about 10 years ago and sold my 10" SC to a local college.Mike here: See the FAQ page.
Subject: etx-90 R.A. Sent: Wednesday, July 9, 2003 20:33:29 From: trsmith@ambitlink.net (Tim R. Smith) I have an older ETX-90 RA. 1997 vintage model. could you please direct me to the area of your web site that address's the problem of slop in the RA knob. (the Ra knob does not ingage immediately when turned, seems loose) I called MEADE today (7-9-03) and got a hold of chris ext.500 and he told me only thing to do was to ship it back to meade corp. and let them look at the problem. I thought I remembered something on your site dealing with this problem years ago. Thanks, Tim SmithMike here: Check the article "ETX-90RA Right Ascension Play Fix" on the Telescope Tech Tips page.
Subject: Mars and ETX90 Sent: Thursday, July 3, 2003 19:51:57 From: mblazer@zoomnet.net (Ronnie Blazer II) A quick question that I wanted to see if you could help me with. I have an ETX90 and am wanting to get the most out of it for seeing Mars at its best. I am considering buying an eyepiece color filter to enhance details of the planet. If I were to buy only one filter do you know which color would be best to get for the ETX90? Thanks --- Ronnie Blazer IIMike here: The filters that work best with Mars are too dark for use with the ETX-90 due to its smaller aperture. But if you want to try, see the Orion Telescopes and Binoculars filters page:
Subject: Eyepiece 26mm Sent: Tuesday, July 1, 2003 12:26:57 From: jistaeheli@bluewin.ch (Joerg & Irmtraud Staeheli) I just wonder whether it's normal that the 26mm eyepiece with filter gets to long in the ETX-90EC, i.e it stops before it fully fits in. Thanks a lot for your reply and best regards, Joerg Staeheli Basel / SwitzerlandMike here: That's OK.
