Subject: Meade DS-114 - How to disassemble the control/power hub?? Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 01:47:53 From: reikoskuma@hotmail.com (Matthew Chastain) I recently received a used DS-114 from my father and he mentioned a problem he had with it. Seems the power conector built in to the small control/power hub is of poor quality and as the telescope moves (or you look at it strange) the whole system will lose power. I'd like to replace the power conector to something more robust but I can't seem to remove the PC board from the plastic body. I am under the impression that the control jacks are pressed into with the soldered conectors and if I pull too hard I may break or damage the connector wires. Help... Anyone have any ideas? -Matt C.Mike here: You might want to check one of DS Yahoo Groups as well.
Subject: Meade DS-114 UPGRADES Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 08:07:28 From: jeperez1@earthlink.net (Johnny Perez) I have been looking at your sight and it's pretty informative. I have a DS 114 telescope and I was wondering if you knew if there was an adaptor for the 1.25 barrel lenses? Any information you might have would be appreciated. I HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS TOO. But for now I would appreciate any info. Thanks, JohnMike here: There are adapters to convert from 0.965" to 1.25" (as well as the reverse). I've used my 0.965 eyepieces in my ETX telescopes (that take 1.25). They may be called by different names; see "Expanding Bushing" on the Accessory Reviews - Eyepieces page for photo and text. I'm pretty sure that Orion Binoculars and Telescopes sells them.
And:
Thanks for the info. By the way, what do you think about using the 1.25 eyepices with the DS-114? Also what do you think about using the 2" eyepiece adaptor with a 40 or 50 mm eyepiece? I got this telescope as a gift from my oldest son and we have really enjoyed using it. Have you seen the adaptors for displaying the image on a computer or using a digital camera with the telescope? One more question--hope you don't mind--do you know where i could get a computer cable for the link from the control box to a computer also for downloads of new software? Thanks again, JohnMike here: I doubt that you'll find 2" eyepieces that usable; I suspect the field of view would be reduced. 1.25 could be OK. As to cameras, see the Helpful Information - Astrophotography page as well as the Accessory Reviews - Astrophotography page. For #505 cable info, see the Autostar Information page if you want to make one or you can buy a Meade or other one from dealers.
And:
Thanks for your help, John
Subject: DS-80EC available at Sam's Club Oct 03 Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 07:41:44 From: IOWAY54@aol.com I noticed at least 8 new DS-80EC telescopes at the Sam's Club in Farmington Hills, Michigan recently. They were $299 each. Alternately, a couple of months ago I found a DS-80EC tripod-only with the electronics, so got it for $110 including shipping and recently converted my ETX-90 for go-to use. I have enjoyed all the information on your site for several years now. Ron Hayes Michigan
Subject: for the guy with the meade 114 Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2003 08:10:25 From: HWilson237@aol.com If you take it to a local machine shop they will extract the screws and replace them for you. Probably won't cost to much.

Subject: MEADE DS 127 MOUNT FOR ORION 127 MAK? Sent: Wednesday, October 8, 2003 07:13:11 From: Bryan.Seale@okfb.com I HAVE AN ORION 127 APEX MAK THAT IS GIVING ME FITS. I BOUGHT A USED MEADE DS-127 MOUNT AND TRIPOD TO MAKE THIS A GO-TO SCOPE. I'M WONDERING IF THIS SCOPE IS TOO HEAVY BECAUSE THE BRASS WORM GEARS HAVE STRIPPED OUT TWICE. Subject: Meade 114 eq-dh model replacement parts Sent: Wednesday, October 8, 2003 07:08:55 From: amkephar@ncsu.edu I have a Meade 114 eq-dh telescope. My son knocked it over and the coupling that holds the weight snapped. (3 screws held it together, now where they were is sheared off at the top). I have looked to try to find a dealer to get a replacement part, but I am not having any luck. Any suggestions? I am about to use duct tape :-)!!! MicheleMike here: Have you contacted Meade? There are some user replaceable parts on many telescope models.
Subject: Meade 4501 Sent: Monday, October 6, 2003 06:54:27 From: wdavidson@tnlaw-knox.com (WDavidson) I bought a Meade 4501 telescope off Ebay. Unfortunately, it has about a 2 1/2" dent on the top of the scope. Do you know if this will affect viewing? The RA cable (I think ?) is also missing. Where can I purchase a replacement piece or do I really need to? Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated! Also, any suggestions on first time viewing would be great as well. Thanks, WhitneyMike here: Do you mean 2.5" deep or long? As to the cable, do you mean an electrical cable for the Right Ascension drive? I don't have this model but would like to have a clear posting so that others might respond. You could also visit Yahoo Groups; there might be one for this model telescope.
And:
It is 2.5" long. I posted a message on Yahoo Groups and it seems that the dent should not be a problem. As for the cable, it is just a manual RA cable. I guess I could move it by hand, but will not get the precision. I just want to see if anyone had any extra ones or could tell me where I might get one. Thanks for your help. WhitneyMike here: No, the dent shouldn't affect the views.
