Subject: ETX 90 AT Update Sent: Friday, September 1, 2006 09:25:44 From: Ortega, Iigo (iortega@cieautomotive.com) My name is Iigo. Let see if you can help me. In 1998, when I was located at the States, I bought a Meade telescope ETX90 AT. Now I am located at Spain and here is so difficult to get info about this telescope. I have been told that you are a "guru" on ETX telescopes. I what to know if is possible to upgrade my telescope with the autostart. I have see that actual ETX 90 have it, the autostart. Please let me know something. Thanks in advance!! B. RgdsMike here: Since you have the AT model you have the #497 Autostar. It can be upgraded using software from Meade's site (http://www.meade.com/support/auto.html) if you have Windows, using AutostarX or AutostarX (Mac OS X) or Lin_Autostar (Linux) (available from the Helpful Information: AutoStar Info page on my ETX Site). Note that you will need to purchase or make a #505 serial cable (info on making one on the AutoStar Info page). You will also need a RS-232 port on your computer; if it doesn't have one you will need a USB-serial adapter (see the article "AutoStar and USB" on the AutoStar Info page.
And:
Perhaps I have confused you with the nomenclature of the telescope. Let me explain: Mi telescope is a 1998 model and do not have the hardware. In telescope is written ETX 90 (Astronomic Telescope). The base where it is mount, only have a small DC motor to compensate earth rotation. Is any possibility to have the hardware of actual ETX90 and upgrade my telescope?Mike here: See the item "How do I upgrade to an Autostar capable model?" on the FAQ page.
And:
Thank! I appreciate your support. B. Rgds
