Subject: Controlling ETX70 Sent: Monday, January 29, 2007 02:24:11 From: Henrik VAN HOLTHOON (henrik.van.holthoon@wanadoo.fr) Hallo Wolfgang, I have read somewhere on the ETX site from Mike Weasner you have problems controlling ETX70AT from your software. I use Starry Night Pro Plus version 6 and this works perfectly with my ETX70 also with the ETX105 PE. In the setup you have to set in the telescope window, the software to[ LX200 and Autostar]. I use also the cable 506 so the cable can not be problem if it is not defect of course, by the way the litle box in the 506 cable converts AUX signals to RS232 signals. I have also the with ETX105 delivered Autostar suite this works with the ETX105 but I did not try this program together with the ETX70. I prefer anyway Starry Night is easier to work, with other programs I do not have any experience. I hope you can solve your problem Auf wieder hren Henrik

From: Harder, Wolfgang (Wolfgang.Harder@siemens.com) thank you for the message. But the Problem is not the controlling from the first Screen.I have the Com 1 under control. The slew motion is correct. But in the Window under the telescope / Handbox is the Problem. The Function Initializing is corrupt. I have no men, no Goto, no speech, only the N/S/O/W buttons are working. Meades answer: use the "Autostar 497" that is correct. But i have a 494.with cable 506. The Problem exist also with Astrostar-Suite and Astronomers edition. Mit freundlichen Gren Wolfgang Harder
Subject: ETX125 to Kstars connection assistance Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 05:16:11 From: Jose G. Sanchez V. (gregorio_sai@yahoo.com) I've been reading many posts about the telescope control capabilities from kstars, however, being relatively new to this I have some questions on which I would like help/advice. I have an ETX-125 and a Fedora Core5-based laptop with kstars, the autostar handbox I presume is working but the LCD? screen is gone so though the telescope responds to some commands I can't see what is doing, so is like not having the handbox controller at all. Q: To connect my laptop to the ETX do I need to go through the autostar handbox? (i.e. laptop->hbx:hbx->scope) or can I just go from the laptop to the scope? what type of cables do I need? my laptop lacks the serial RS232 port but has USB's. Any comment much appreciated and sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. Cheers, GregorioMike here: Yes, you need to use the AutoStar. The software tells the AutoStar what to do and the AutoStar controls the telescope. You will need a #505 serial cable (you can easily make one; see the cable section on the Helpful Information: AutoStar Info page). You will also need a USB-serial adapter; see the article "AutoStar and USB" on the AutoStar Info page.
Subject: ETX-105 observation of the Sun ETX105 Sent: Friday, January 12, 2007 23:47:33 From: steve campbell (campbese@alltel.net) Maybe you can help me,is there any programs dedicated to observing the Sun,like in tracking it for solar photographs and observing it long periods on my pc. THANKS StevenMike here: See the article "Setting a Solar Tracking Rate" on the Helpful Information: AutoStar Info page. I'm not familiar with any applications specifically designed for solar imaging. Usually, once you had a proper safe solar filter, just imaging as normal should be OK.
