Subject: Question regarding ETX-105PE Sent: Friday, January 25, 2008 09:29:51 From: JHNICHOLS (jhnichols3@comcast.net) I have enjoyed your site, but have not had a chance to read it completely. My question is to what is a good price on a new ETX-105PE. I currently own a DS-114 with AutoStar that was purchased second hand off of Ebay several years ago, and has had a motor go bad this year. Living in town (Shreveport) and having to drive several miles to find clear unpolluted skies, I have not routinely been involved in astronomy since I was a teenager (40 now) living in the backwoods of Oklahoma. The DS-114 was a little bit of a pain to set up and align, but it did have the #497 controller. The day after Christmas I found an ETX-60AT BB (backpack edition) on sale at Wal Mart for $125. After using it one time I fell in love with astronomy again, and started go out of town again to use it. I have done a little photography of the moon by holding the camera (Sony Mavica FD-100) directly to the eyepiece. The ETX-60, although the most modest in the ETX line, is light years ahead of the little wooden tripod mounted 50mm refractor tha I used as a teenager. I have decided to get back into astronomy and photography. The ETX-60 is a fine scope but is hard to find accessories for. I would like to go to a larger ETX and have found an ETX-105PE from your friends at OCEANSIDE PHOTO & TELESCOPE for $712. I think the ETX-105 is out of production and this is a close out price. Do you think this is a good price and do you still like OCEANSIDE PHOTO? Thanks for you time and consideration. Joseph Nichols P.S. Will later update the camera too. Compared with newer cameras the Sony FD-100 is a little like holding a breadbox to the scope.Mike here: Yes, the ETX-105PE has been discontinued. With the UHTC included, that would be a good price. And I still have a relationship with OPT as discussed on the OPT page on my ETX Site.
Subject: Install a 1244 focuser on EXT-125 PE ? Sent: Tuesday, January 1, 2008 14:54:16 From: Volpi Lucio (luciovolpi@hotmail.com) Hi my name is Lucio, I'm writing from California, I just had a problem with my Autostar of my EXT 125 PE, I read your article and I was able to reset my Autostar.Thank you so much for your hel . I have an Electric Focuser #1244 for EXT-90, can I install it on the EXT 125 PE?, if Yes How? thank youMike here: Not without making some mods since it is designed for only the ETX-90 and ETX-105. Unfortunately, no one has submitted a Tech Tip on how to make those mods so you would be on your own. If you do try it, feel free to write up what you do (with photos if possible) and I'll add it to the Site.
