Subject: Can you share some information? Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 08:41:39 From: Curtis, William R - Jacksonville BMC (william.r.curtis@usps.gov) I too bought an ETX when they first came out. It is battery operated. Can you tell me what I would need to get to make it where my old ETX will point directly to specific objects? Like dialing in a handheld device? I'm just wondering if you could help. I'm a postal worker, hence the email address. Thanks! Bill CurtisMike here: See the item "Q. How do I upgrade a non-AutoStar ETX to an AutoStar capable ETX?" on the FAQ page on my ETX Site.
Subject: ETX-90 Right Tube Adapter From Meade Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 19:45:37 From: Spencer, Darrell (DSpencer@sjm.com) On June 16, Ben Mitchell mentioned in ETX-90 Feedback that Meade tells him that the right tube adapter is no longer available. I got the same answer from them when I asked about the RTA for an ETX-90EC. They said the EC was no longer supported. I had to insist on speaking with someone with technical background. I asked if the PE had made fundamental design changes to the mount. He answered that it had not. I then asked if the RTA for the PE would work on the EC. He acknowledged that it would. I asked for him to then send me the PE part for my EC. Worked like a charm - for about $20. Hope this helps - but if Ben asked for a PE part and they're out of stock, then all bets are off. Best regards, Darrell Spencer
Subject: Right Tube Adapter Sent: Monday, June 16, 2008 15:53:06 From: Ben Mitchell (aircorp28@gmail.com) Mr. Weasner, would guide me to a website or a few phone numbers for a Right Tube Adapter for the ETX 90? Meade no longer carries that part and I had found one or two aluminum milled pieces but that's all. Thank You for your website and I hope to use the ETX soon. Subject: Old ETX 90 Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 13:38:40 From: perry.duke@agilent.com I purchased an ETX 90 RA FROM Craig's list for 130.00 last week and am really impressed with the optics over my ETX 60. I have been looking through the web site for advice on replacing the gear box in the base; it is frozen and will not move. The motor and circuit board are fine, just the gear box. Also, the RA knob next to the lock knob on the base that moves the scope side to side has separated from the gear, I guess this was a press fit and has just worked loose. I have removed the large ring gear to make it a totally manual scope and it works great like this but I would like it to track electrically. The gear box is press fitted to the gear also and I don't want to mangle the gear getting the gear box out. Could you post this for me and see if anyone has any ideas or old parts lying around that they would sell/ donate. I really appreciate your work and value your web site highly. Regards, Perry DukeMike here: You might see the article "ETX/EC Tune-up" on the Helpful Information: Telescope Tech Tips page. Parts may be available from Telescope Warehouse (link on the Astronomy Links page). Gears might be obtainable from the source mentioned in the article "Replacement Gears source" on the Telescope Tech Tips page.
And:
As I dug deeper into the web page I found the telescope warehouse web page link and called them. They have what's needed to get the scope working. Thanks, Perry
