Subject: Which Version of AutoStar to Install Sent: Sunday, September 9, 2007 08:29:58 From: Graeme Burdis ((GB)) (graeme@microknight.co.uk) Great site with lots of useful info. I have recently bought a second user ETX 90PE which came with the LPI. Both the Telescope and the LPI included the AutoStar Suite. The one with the telescope was Astronomer Edition V3.0 and with the LPI Version 2.0. Now usually I would go with V3.0 but for the fact it's labelled 'Astronomers Edition' and the other isn't. Which is the latest and greatest of the two? Or is there a better version available on the web I should download? Many thanks Graeme UKMike here: I presume you mean "AutoStar Suite" and not the AutoStar ROM. The latest is available (I believe) at Meade4M.com. I haven't checked the version lately. Latest version is also at: http://www.meade.com/autostar/update/

Thanks Mike Regards Graeme
Subject: Envisage problem Sent: Friday, September 7, 2007 00:14:41 From: mail.westnet.com.au (jchaurette@lightmypump.com) I am finally starting to image with an LPI on my Meade ETX-125, it's very exciting. The scope is tracking very well. The other night I had Jupiter, it's way up high here near Melbourne. The image that Jupiter makes in Live mode in Envisage is very jumpy and tends to move around. Do you have any ideas what the cause of this might be, the scope is very stable and on a good solid tripod. Thanks once again for any help. Jacques www.lightmypump.com Traralgon Australia S38:11:14 E146:31:47Mike here: Could be a poor drive training or a need to CALIBRATE MOTOR. Could be "periodic error" in the tracking. Are you in Polar or Alt/Az? If not Polar, you might try that -- then you could apply PEC.
And:
Could be periodic error, although I am not quite sure what that means, as I said the scope tracking at the time was very good, although it does seem to be inconsistent from night to night. I will try to calibrate the motors and see what happens. I am in alt/Az, I will give polar a try.Mike here: Search the ETX Site for "periodic error" for more info and how to have the AutoStar correct for it.
Subject: re: Remote Handbox Text Problem Sent: Saturday, September 1, 2007 09:06:28 From: richard seymour (rseymour@wolfenet.com) I vaguely remember the "black screen" symptom. I think it was fixed by updating Autostar Suite to the current version. Meade calls it the 4th update. If you look at the Help/About in SkyMap, the newest reports version 3.23 You can download the current Autostar Suite Update from here: http://www.meade.com/autostar/update/ and (for the record) there's a "troubleshooting" page here: http://www.meade.com/autostar/tsguide.html (but it doesn't mention the black RemHbx screen). have fun --dick
