Subject: Re: ETX-105EC Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2008 11:18:59 From: John Herman (jherman@sasktel.net) Thank you for your rely. Yes I had read this information from your websit for calibrating. I read your article on the ETX 105 and followed up with Oracle photos shown using this unit. My concerns are more with gearing and motor problems as there is no one to repair this type of unit. Bye the way, I am located in Saskatoon Sask Canada and there is no dealers of any kind here for any accesaries so thank God for Ebay. It seemed like you had problems in the setup of AutoStar and this is something I hadn't even checked out, so I will see if the program has kept my location in the memory as this would explain some of the problms I've had, but I reaaly like this scope when compared with ETX 90 I replaced. So thanks again. Best regards, John HermanMike here: I recommend using City Name (or actual Lat/Long/TimeZone) for the Site info. Other than that, all should be well.
Subject: ETX-105EC Sent: Tuesday, September 9, 2008 08:13:39 From: John Herman (jherman@sasktel.net) Mike, it's John here and I see that you to own an ETX 105. I would like your comments on this model as I see so many negative comments on this model. I purchased mine used as there is no dealer for telescopes within 300 miles of my location in Canada. I am quite happy with mine but have had some problems with alignment and thanks to your site I have done alignment on terrestial objects but from time to time it likes to do its own thing. The concerns, and why I am troubling you with this question is that so many users complain about the drives and gearing problems, and alignment using the two star system in the Autostar system. I thought this model was constructed the same as the ETX 90 and 125 but see it is not. I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to this model. I really like the images I am getting with my scope but before I purchase accessaries and find this scope breaks down I may have to reconsider my purchase, I am concerned. Also, as so many people have said, thank you for your site. It is the most detailed and well laid out site for information on all aspects of Astronomy that I have ever found. Best regards, JohnMike here: You can read my comments about my ETX-105PE on the Helpful Information: Buyer/New User Tips page. As to aligning difficulties, have you done a CALIBRATE MOTOR and TRAIN DRIVES (on both axes)?
