If you have a friend with a 497 Autostar, you can "clone" his firmware
to your Autostar directly. You do not need a PC in the middle.

You must make a "Clone cable" which directly connects the smaller
socket on the 497 to the same socket on the other 497.

That cable "swaps" two of the wires (to connect "send" to "receive")

If you look at the *end* of the cable, you can number the pins like
this:

+--------------+
| 1 2 3 4 |
+---+ +----+
   +-----+

In that diagram, pins 3 and 4 are the two that are swapped, so the
other end becomes:

+--------------+
| 1 2 4 3 |
+---+ +----+
   +-----+

Connect the two Autostars together with that cable.

Connect each Autostar to its own telescope.

Turn on both telescopes.

Then, on the destination Autostar, use the menu to reach: Setup/Download [enter]

Next, on the source Autostar, use the menu to reach: Setup/Clone [enter]

Then (in the sub-menu) choose "Clone All" [enter]

That should start the transfer. It will take about 9 minutes.

It will tell you when it is finished.

good luck
